Mouseout fade?

I have some good mouseover events but the mouseout is just an abrupt drop back to the original state. looking for a subtle change when the user moves the mouse off of the button.
This is most noticeable in the portfolio section of

I cant find much help online or in past posts.

You could maybe try this kind of scripting... Reverse plays on mouseout...
