mouse wheel 1-2-3 97 and XP

This seems a little ridiculous, but it's important to at least one of my users. She uses Lotus 123 for some operations and uses her mouse wheel to navigate within her sheets. It's a Dell Microsoft ps/2 intellimouse and she's in Xp.

I'm trying to convince her to switch to Excel, and this may be the last straw that does it. But until then (and until someone-- i.e., me-- has time to train her in Excel) I'd like to get this working. ANy suggestions? Is this a lotus-in-XP bug? We tried reinstalling the mouse and the wheel works in other applications.
