mouse smoothing

no matter how i set games up my mouse/crosshair movement always seems be jerky not smooth when making small movements. im running a athlon 900 512mb ram geforce2mx win98. never had this prob when running a voodoo 3500. am i over looking something or is it the card?? am also running ps2 rate with no enhanced performance. ANY suggestions would be greatly appriciated
