I'll state right off the top that i am LEFT HANDED.

I currently use a Logitech wheel mouse (the old favourite generic one that became oem for many people like Compaq etc) at home and work and i really like them but i've started to get pain in my little finger as it sits sort of scrunched up against the mouse pad and the joint is getting very sore. As i spend up to 16 hours a day using a mouse i thought it was time i did something about it.

I use the mouse with buttons configured as for a right handed person e.g. left button primary.

I'd like a mouse that is a bit larger and taller so that my hand was held up off the mouse mat but preferable not ergonomic as we do have a hotdesk policy at work.

I don't want wireless either as dealing with batteries or docking chargers is a pain, nevermind the communication issues i see all the time.

Has anyone used/uses a mouse they particularly like that fits the bill?

Yours with aching fingers

Hey Norty - I agree , Cordless mice / keyboards are a joke...

They're are somethings that just should be wired!! ,

Check out the Logitech MX-510 , I think it'll fit the bill of what your after , that and it has a great tracking rate... ,

Check out the Logitech MX-510

Unfortunately, unless they do a left-handed version its no good for me - (see the top of my original post)

norty303, couldn't you just swap the button functions once you got it?

Its not the button config, its the fact its ergonomically shaped for right-handed people, just doesn't look it from the picture on the website. I use my mouse in a right-handed config anyway so thats not the issue

In that case, try the Logitech Trackman Wheel Optical.

Ok, now i'm confused....

Thats even more ergonomic (for right-handed people) than the previous one and its a trackball!!

Couldn't be more wrong for my requirements.

I also use a Logitech, but a older model, and I use it with my left hand. I really like it much better than a standard mouse, except it doesn't have the 'scrolling function'. The track ball is the feature to go with, then you are not always dragging your hand around. Some of my friends have made rubber pads for their mouses to avoid pain.

Thanks for all of that. It really needs to be non-handed specific because of our hot-desk policy so other right-handed people may use my desk whilst i'm away or working elsewhere.

I'll check the links though because i need to replace my one at home too :)

I am right-handed and often use my mouse with my left hand. I still use the left button as the primary. My main concern is the prevention of carpal tunnel, and I have been successful at holding that off.

Are there any other righties who sometimes use their mouse with the left hand?

I actually like a wireless mouse, I have no problems with mine, it is an RF radio mouse, have had it over 4 years, works very well, and only have to charge it every other day, once you get in the habit of docking it,it's not a problem.

So now I dislike the tethered feeling I get when using my other PC's,or my wife's.

That being said, The microsoft wheel mouse, not the basic is very good, the basic is smaller so not what you are looking for, but the wheel mouse optical is a good size, and has no slants in the base, just a 2 button wheel mouse, usb, and ps2 compatiable.
