I have a Pentium III, 533 MHz running Windows 98. When the machine is first turned on, the mouse works fine. However, over the course of a couple of hours, the mouse begins jerking around as you move. Once the machine is rebooted, it runs fine.

The on board battery needs to be replaced (not keeping time) but I don't believe they have anything to do with one another.

Thanks for your help.

Well, this may or may not be it, but I had the same problem, the mouse moving all by itself, and being jumpy. This happened all of the time just before I lost a motherboard, don't mean to scare you or anything, but it might be a possibility. May try a different mouse though?

Something might be overheating, check to make sure all of your fans (especially CPU) are still running.. !!

Good luck!

Try going to advanced search and searching on the word mouse. SMAH gave us some answers about this recently.
