Mouse problems on network

When running a PowerCobol V4 program on a stand alone machine the mouse moves smoothly . However if the program is run on a networked machine the mouse moves jerkily and slowly. The mouse is fine on non-cobol applications. Is anyone aware of any reason why this this happen and what I can do about it?
