so i was gone for a few days and had my computer off. when i returned home and started up my computer my mouse wasn't working. i took off the usb to ps2 adapter and plugged it into an available usb port and everything was fine. i had a spare ps2 optical mouse and tried plugging that into the ps2 mouse port and the optical eye was not lit up. so it seems as though my mouse port is not getting power. does anyone have any ideas that i could try? and what would cause the mouse port to just stop working? my keyboard port still works great. thanks.

Try holding the power button for 5 seconds. You might be going into hibernate mode when you shut down, which sometimes gets messed up. A full reboot often fixes things.

i have tried both of those things you suggested before and they didn't work.

does a normal ps2 mouse work in the port ?

and if you can use the mouse in usb anyway i don't really see the problem even if ps2 port has failed !

Was the computer plugged in during an electrical storm? Lightning can mess up a system that has a phone line connected, or is turned on during a voltage spike.
