Hi everyone! My first post.
I installed XP Pro (fresh install) on my Dell P4 550 (after formatting the HD). Now when I start it up, if I have a mouse in the mouse port, the keyboard and the mouse wont function at all. The mouse cursor stays in the middle of the screen. If I start the PC with out the mouse in the mouse port the keyboard functions perfectly. If I start the PC with an USB mouse, the keyboard and the USB mouse work. I have tried using different mouse port mice that I have verified are working properly on other systems. It seems like my mouse port got screwed up in the install somehow. The port was functioning properly using win98 (pre xp install)
I've flashed the BIOS and that didn't fix it.
Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome and hello.

Have you looked in Device Manager to see if you have any of those nasty yellow exclamation marks. Try running MsInfo32 and see if you have any problems in there.

Look in the Event Viewer too. (See Help and Support).
Have you checked for updated drivers for your motherboard?

The Device manager does not show any of the yellow exclams.
I will try bcastner's links this weekend.
Thanks guys,

bcastner's first link fixed my problem.
Thanks
