Mouse over opacity change

I am building a portfolio site I need to get an action script to change the opacity of a black box on a mouse over so that the opacity changes to "0" on the mouse over.

Time is an issue here

If the black box is a movie clip...

yourMovieClip_mc.onRollOver = function(){
this._alpha = 0;
};
yourMovieClip_mc.onRollOut = function(){
this._alpha = 100;
};

do i have to make the black box a movie clip or can it be an instance of a symbol?

Well a movie clip on stage is an instance of a movie clip symbol, right?
