I have a question, i have a 7044-170 running AIX V5.2, when the system boots up the mouse is not responding, the pointer remains dead center of the screen, the keyboard works fine, mouse0 show us as defined but not available and it has a location. It an IBM 3 button optical mouse and i've tried another mouse with the same results, what could be happening here?

Thanks
MCS

Since the mouse is in a defined state then your machine is not able to see it! So i would go with either there is something wrong with the slot that you connect your mouse in or mouse device driver (if such a thing exists!)

Does errpt -a shows any clue?

What is the output of cfgmgr -v?

Khalid

Probably the server was booted without the mouse present?
So run the command [tt]cfgmgr[/tt] and see if you get the device mouse0 in the Available state...

If not then your mouse device is either defective or not connected properly.

hi to all,

try to logout (using arrows and enter keys) and restart
a new login (but I belive you have already done).

If you have already done also a reboot, what happens if you
start without a mouse: do you see still the arrow ?
(I suggest to reach the machine by telnet to reboot it)

Have you the old (no optical mouse) also if "dirty" ?

Try this:
1) insert CD 1 of the operating system
2) run cfgmgr from smitty entering:
smitty cfgmgr
3) in input device, press F4 and choose the cdrom
4) press enter
