Mouse not responding during print session

Please help
I have a HP930c printer that has been working fine until last week. When I print a file to the printer, the mouse will not respond properly on the screen. I have to wait till the print session finishes before I can get the mouse to respond again.

This all started after the printer was pulled out before the computer was shutdown.

I have removed and reinstalled the drivers, that did not help.
I have even wiped the drive clean and reinstalled OS98SE and Office 97.
Still no control over mouse.
