Recently i have had the problem of having no mouse when booting Win2K SP04. It only happens occasionally but the only fix seems to be a reboot and then it appears.

When it's gone, the "Hardware" tab in Mouse properties in Control Panel shows nothing (i.e. loses it's entry), but after a reboot the device appears again !.

Has anyone else had this and how did you solve it ?

Many thanks.

Swap the mouse. Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to MyComputer/HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Control Panel/Mouse right hand panel you should see a default key, highlight it, go to File/export and save it as mouse default or whatever name you want. If it happens again with the new mouse, then it is not a hardware issue (hopefully you won't get 2 bad mice) navigate where you exported the registry entry and double click on it, see if it appears. Post back if it did not help.
