On an older system I have, the mother board has been replaced along with other changes and modifications. But after every change, the complete system worked properly. Now, the system will not recognize my mouse. I have tried 3 different mouses, 4 serial ports and 2 PS/2 ports. I have tried unintstalling and installing different types. When I first noticed this problem, it was because the IRQ that the mouse wanted (IRQ 12) was being used by my Video Display Adapter, but I have corrected that and the computer looks like it is ready and waiting for a mouse. Is there anything I overlooked or does my computer just not want a mouse any longer?

Probably a conflict with PCI. How about removing all remnants of mouse and com ports. Then let W find the com ports. Then add a serial mouse to an identified com port.
There are potential sharing problems with some PCI slots that can affect sruff.
And did the serial ports connect to the ourside world with ribbon cable? If so , you possibly have the wrong ribbon cable, as there are two types. Ed Fair

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply.

Help increase my knowledge by providing some feedback, good or bad, on any advice I have given.

Open your bios (hit delete when booting), make sure your serial 2 port is set to disabled.

I have had the worst issue with that darn serial 2 port onj at least 4 computers in the past, it seems nothing you do can make it work properly and if it works then you lose your PS/2 mouse, your video or your modem. GRRRR

Anyway, my 2 thoughts are as specified above and adding your mouse driver path and file name to config.sys and autoexec.bat.
