I know that Unix is different from windows in that it needs more manual configuring but how do I get Solaris 8 (Intel version) to recognize my floppy drive and cd-rom??
I mean does it automatically detect the drives at startup and I have to mount them or do I have to create the drives somehow and then mount them??

Aren't all devices located in the dev or devices folder??

Sorry for the newbie questions but thats exactly what I am

Please help, any info would be much appreciated

Thanx in advance

Although I don't use the intel version, this is handled by the Volume Manager.

You should be able to insert a disk then restart volmgt (/etc/init.d/volmgt) --
