Howdy friends!

I am having problem mounting my CD-ROM. A listing of /dev/*cd* shows

brw-rw-rw- 1 root sys 47, 0 Mar 27 2000 cd0
cr--r--r-- 1 root root 50, 8 Mar 27 2000 nrcdt0
crw-rw-rw- 1 root sys 47, 0 Mar 27 2000 rcd0
cr--r--r-- 1 root root 50, 0 Mar 27 2000 rcdt0
cr--r--r-- 1 root root 50,128 Mar 27 2000 xcdt0

If I try to mount my CD-ROM using mount /dev/cd0 /cd I get an error

mount: cannot stat '/dev/cd0': No such device or address (error 6)

My hwconfig -h shows:

I try using admin interface and CD-ROM still does not show there. I do not remember creating a CD-ROM device but if I didn't, would /dev have above shown files?

What do I need to do to fix this?

Thank you all in advance!

The device is created when you install the OS if you installed it from a cd. (I don't remember if it still supports a tape install or not)

1 - is there a valid cd in the drive?
does it spin up when you try to mount it?
2 - try mounting it with the -r parameter

3 - try mounting it with the -f RCKRDG or -f ISO9660 parameters

Is the cd a IDE or SCSI -- If IDE make sure that it is the master drive on either controler (primary or secondary) preferrably the primary.

stanhubble,

1 - Yes, I had a valid CD in CD-ROM

2,3 - I am not on site now, but will try these later!

wthorse,

CD is IDE. I am not sure how is it set on BIOS but according to hwconfig, it is slave/primary !!!???

How do I confirm your question?

Thank you both for your time and assistance!

hwconfig does NOT necessarily know what the drive is. Check it in the bios and make /etc/conf/cf.d/mscsi match or run "mkdev cdrom" to fix it. Tony Lawrence
