I recently installed OS 8.6 on a PowerMac 5400. It's acting up and Disk First Aid says Mount Check found serious errors. I can't update the driver because it says there is security software installed. I'm stumped.

Are you running the Verify or repair function in Disk First Aid?

Are you runnning disk first aid from the startup volume or from a booted CD Rom?

Have you tried booting up with extension off? That should disable any security software you have runnning in the background. Boot up with SHIFT key down till the splash screen tells you "welcome...extensions off"

You should be able to still run Disk First Aid off the startup volume. The prefered way would be to boot from the CD (holding the "C" key on boot) and run the disk first aid from there.

Also you may try a third party disk repaair utility like Norton or tech Tool Pro.

Hope this helps.
