I inserted the line, 'mount -t vfat /dev/hda1 /mnt/win_c' in /etc/profile thinking that the filesystem would be mounted at startup for all users. But it's not working. How can I get it to work for all users? How can I get it to work for just one user?
Thanks for any help.

Hi,

For clarity, stuff in /etc/fstab is only mounted at boot time if you have the option (fourth field) as 'defaults' or specifically state 'auto'. You can suppress boot time mounts (e.g. for CD !) by putting 'noauto' as one of the options. During startup the system issues a 'mount -a' command which basically does a mount of all filesystems in /etc/fstab that are marked for auto either explicitly or by defaults.

Regards
