Hi All,

Have an Intel Mac running 10.4.x that stopped mounting anything, repaired & removed the pref folders (as per docs online) and it starting working again. Then it stopped again, and again...

Now it mounts anything that is present at startup but nothing afterwards. I can remove a usb drive and reinsert it, and it will mount again for a day or two. I can't mount usb, fw or images. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
DMS in LA, CA

Open Disk Utility, with all drives connected to the mac, and see if they show up in the left pane of the DU window. If yes, see if Mount is available at the top of the DU window. If yes. click it. Sometimes, when you disconnect a drive without "ejecting" it, it will not remount properly when reconnected.

You might also try Disk Utility to see if your hard drive might need repair. If DU reports it does, start from your software install disk and run DU from that to repair your hard drive.

Last, it might behoove you to reinstall OSX via archive and install. That will give you a fresh OS without effecting anything else, However, before you do an archive and install, go to your prefs folder (while started up from the software install disk) and trash the prefs for Finder and Disk Utility.

Using OSX 10.3.9 & 10.4.11 on a G4, G5 & Intel Macbook
