I'm trying to make a connection with XP Pro to the internet via a motorola surfboard. The individual had his sysytem upgraded from 98 to Xp Pro. He maintained internet connection for about 2.5 months then it just dropped it.
Ran all DOS commands pertaing to ipconfig. Even ran repair commands. He also has a laptop running 98 that when plugged into the same cable works just fine. Is there something in XP that requires a different protocol other than tcp/ip? Also is there any problems that have been noted useing motorola modems? The computer is a four year old compaq.

Thanking you

This may sound overly simple, did you try turning the modem and the computer off and then restarting, XP will find the modem.

Please let us know if the advice we give is of some help.
Feedback will benefit all
