Motion path ANIMATION?

Hm, now why would you want to animate a motion path?
Wouldn't it simply be easier to scrub through your video segment and put the motion path exactly where you want it for the duration of the animation, and then when you animate along it, the obbject you want to animate goes exactly where you tell it?
Or are you doing something like having an animated sparking whip like in the Doctor Who Christmas Invasion a couple years ago?
