Hi,

It's been quite a while since i've built my own computer, can anybody give me a recommendation on a barebones or motherboard? I am looking to build on a budget so i will stick with amd athlon chip. I do AutoCAD and 3d studio and plan on doing video capture. I don't have to have the fastest machine, just adequate and reliable/stable. Any suggestions or links to other forums? Thanks

I purchased a ASUS A7V333 with a AMD 2200 chip I love it!!

thats my 2 cents :)

ASUS is one of the better ones, but since you state to go budget, go for MSI I would say. Still very good, but cheaper. If the solution is out there, let us know it was helpful, so others can benefit from it as well..

I`m in the UK and I have been using Jetway boards, on my second now due to upgrade (V266a)and I can`t fault them in performance, stability, price and support. Please stay away from PC-Chips (headache) You have been warned!. If your unsure....Dont do it!

in my opinion asus or msi boards are the way to go for stability and price. i took my chances with a budget ecs board and i hate it. you might take a look at for some pricing on boards and other equipment. let us know how it works out for you. everyday you learn something new, the day you dont is the day you die....so make someone live longer teach them something.......MUTT

ASUS boards are really great. It's worth spending a bit on the board now, as this will leave you a bit of room for upgrade in the near future if you don't want to pack it out with all the fancy features now! The ASUS A7N8X is a very nice board and uses the geforce2 chipset which is currently the fastest.

If you can get the deluxe, it has dual LAN (good for redundancy) and serial ATA.

With the sorts of apps in mind, you will want to spend a lot on the graphics card, a top-end card will relieve the CPU. The ASUS board above can take 8x AGP Please let us know what you think of posts, feedback is always appreciated as this will help to further our knowledge as well.
