I have an ABIT motherboard with a SiS 645 chipset. Since the board was put in, I've experienced lockups in games PLUS my system shutting down on me for no apparent reason.

This happens with both Windows 98 SE and WinXP. Screen freezes but audio still continues. Have to hit the reset button each time.

Latest drivers but this has been happening since day 1 with this board.

Talked with tech support and no help.

Took my system into the shop and they couldn't find the problem. Memory tested fine.

CPU temparature does seem to be a bit high: hovers around 50 degrees when sitting idle. Opinion is that it's probably not the cause for my difficulties.

Bios was reset and this didn't help. Either there's something wrong with my video card OR something with my motherboard OR some kind of conflict between my motherboard and video card (this happend also, a couple of years ago).

At this point, I am considering just taking the board out and replacing it with different one.

Specs: Quantum Fireball Hard Drive
: ATI Radeon 8500LE with newest dirvers
: Soundblaster Live Value with last driver set
: ABIT SD7-533 motherboard with SiS 645 shipset
: PCI cooling fan (for video card)
: Direct X 8.1b installed
: Windows 98 SE and WindowsXP on different partitions
: 300 watt power supply
: 256 DDR Crucial memory

Memory has been tested. It's fine.

Anyone else have these kinds of problem?

I bought an 8500LE for my friend about 1 weeks ago. I tested it in my system, crashes every single hour(performance is fine).
The driver from ATI website has all kinds of problems with it. Try to download it somewhere else. Just the driver, don't install anything else comes with it.
My friends had it running in win98, seems fine now.

If this won't help, go to Abit's website see if there's any bio upgrade for this mb.

If no, test another stick of ram.

Here's a new one for you.

Turns out, that when I replaced my IDE cable with a new one, all the problems disappeared! Strange.

So, all along the problem was either a loose IDE cable or a damaged one. Either way, my system is back to normal again. Thank god.
