I have never replaced a motherboard on my computer and now I need to. I have an Emachine W3080. The original motherboard is fine except my AGP slot was fried. I want to replace it with a ASUS "K8N" NVIDIA nForce3 Chipset Motherboard For AMD Socket 754. Can I do this?? Thankyou.

Assuming the CPU is compatible, you'll almost definitely need to perform a new install of the operating system (and the eMachine restore disk will almost certainly not work)

Be sure to back everything important up before starting.

In addition, you'll want to make sure your power supply puts out enough juice to run any hardware upgrades you install. Nothing personal against eMachines, but they are cheap for a good reason - they are built to accomodate what comes with them and often leave little room for improvements.

Sorry no!

This looks like a mini ATX case, the original motherboard has 3 PCI slots and by the look of the picture it fills the backplate.
So the Asus K8N wouldn't physically fit as it is full sized ATX design.

Also the original is a socket A XP3.0+ CPU and the replacement is a newer socket 754 (differant CPU)

My advice would be to get a cheap PCI graphics card in it and sell it on!

There would be just too many changes to make this an economical upgrade.
