Guys,

I'm thinking about setting up my Meridian 81C with VOIP functionality to cost save on VOIP to the PSTN through the internet.

Two questions: -
1. Has anyone experienced VOIP from the Meridian and the Quality of these calls
2. Has anyone topology diagrams and specifications with respect to the cards for the Switch and any Lan equipment.

Any other info would be appreciated

here is a site with that info, from experience, the voice quality fo voip calls are a direct result of your bandwidth. Some of my users love it, others have problems during peak traffic, all studies aside, if you have a cir of 50k per conversation above your data needs you will love the voice quality. I have worked on app where even though data was marked DE, inside of a frame cloud, those bits were not read. As a result when massive file transfer took place calls were almost impossible. This was a result of branch banks trying to close and needing twice the bandwidth allotted. Data transfer was very slow, voice was clipped to a point as to render it usless. I have worked with both cisco and nortel voip and both are very highly recogmended. The dependablity is somewhere between land lines and cell phones, with qos programmed RIGHT, and backup routes, you can save money and stay in business..one techs opinion

If you have a LAN/WAN that fills the requirements there should not be any problems with VOIP.

We are using VOIP for our customers on a daily basis.

All nortel products work well.
I dont have any experience of other products. (why should I????????)

You can use uncompressed or compressed speach as you want.
If you use compressed speach you will have a lower (but acceptable) voice quality.
It is recommended to give the users iformation of why you have installed a system wich uses compressed speach.
If they are aware of that it saves money for the company it might be accepted. If they dont know that, they just think its a worse solution than what it was before.

Nortels different IP solutions are all good, and there is different ways to do the same things.
So before you do anything, think wich way you are going with IP in the future. It may give you a hint on wich solution you should choose.

BUT as I said before, the LAN/WAN setup is vital, and that voice always have higher priority that the other traffic on the LAN/WAN.

The IP setup on the switch has to be the same as the LAN/WAN can support.

If you do all this, it can give a nice solution. Otherwise not...

senn is right, the lan side is easy, the wan side can be a problem, but with bandwidth dropping in price it's getting better.
