mornin all

i have a datavg with 10 4.2gb disks , i have just rebuilt the vg to allow the addition of 2 18.2gb disks

the vg is mirrored, will the two 18.2gb disks automatically fall in with the mirroring policy or do i have to do something

thanks in advance

scott

If you're doing your mirroring via LV copies, just continue to make sure your copy policies are all consistent and correct. As long as the "Allocate each logical partition copy on a SEPARATE physical volume" choice is set to "Yes", AIX will make sure that your data is mirrored safely. The LVM doesn't mirror things on the principle of "physical disk 19 is a mirror copy of physical disk 12".

It's worth noting that as your disks fill up, you will eventually be forced to take a more hands-on approach as to what LVs get placed where, along with some data reorganization tasks. It's possible under AIX's default LVM management for things to get to a state where it's impossible for it to create LV copies on separate volumes.

On the flip side, if you're already doing careful LV placement, you may already have this down. If you don't, create your new LV's with a command similar to "mklv -y newlv -c 2 datavg 1234 hdisk12 hdisk19". Including the physical volume names after the LP count will restrict the LV creation to those specific physical volumes. Be sure to include the "-c 2", if not, your new lv will be a single copy split across those two disks.

cheers

just increased the size of the filesystem

lslv -m datalv

and it all looks good

thanks for the help
