I apologize in adnance that i ask another question in so few days..Due to help from here i managed to continue my installation..but i stuck to something that i did not think before.. I have to create 4 filesystems to my disk..which is imposible (there are only 7 divisions)..
i was thinking if it is possible to create two unix partitions and then create the three filesytems on my active one and the other filesystem to the other unix partition..
Notice that i have only one disk to do all these (otherwise if i had two disks i would not have had any problem to do it)

Can i do this and how can sco finds out and mount the filesystem placed on the other partition ?

My server is a proliant 370 , the scsi controler is 641 and i have only one logical drive (2 hd raid 0+1)

Any help would be greatfull...Thank you again

(i hope you understand what i am looking for...i do know that my english is poor)

I should have mentioned this in the earlier post. Your best option (in my opinion) is to create 4 smaller logical drives using the BIOS utility. Each would appear as if an individual physical disk to SCO. You would still gain a little performance benefit by having those big drives striped, but you also gain the risk of losing everything if one drive fails!
If you DO choose to break that space into different logical drives, you will need to use the COMPAQ utility to create filesystems on the 3 remaining partitions AFTER the O/S is installed.

# mkdev cpqciss

The cpqciss utility is included in the Compaq/HP EFS disks. Note that the secondary logical drives only differ by the LUN (SCSI Controller/Channel/ID are the same as the boot driv).

Thank you for your respond.. I will look at this tomorrow morning (for me). I guess you mean instead of making a logical drive (raid 0+1) by pressing F9 i have to do 4 of them (raid 0+1)..(maybe i am wrong..it is better to find out tommorow and then ask again)
One other thing.., if you can help me with.. I did boot with the 641 controler but i have to attaced a dlt tape to the contoler of the board..I think the driver must be in the disketes i created in the beginning.. The thuth is that i have not look at it (very much time), but any help will help me to save sometime ......and my stress also
It is my first fresh install in a ml server and hp in my country do not give any help..

..........................................

ps..They also told me that the raid (0+1) is the safest

Thank you once, again

This server is my Waterloo.I never have thought that i would have faced so many problems. If i knew that i wouldnot have aggreed to "built' it..(moreover that they have lost even the smart cd)..So , i am sorry if i repeat myself but i need some more help here
My first problem is that i have to make four filestystems
(users1, users2,users3,users4). I managed to do them with the unorthodox way..by making two unix partitions and mount the fs of the second partition to the root disk.. A kernel panic and that is not recomended to use divvy twice in one disk..make me thoughts that i have to follow "motoslide' instructions

I need a little more help here ("motoslide' i would be greatfull if you can help me,or anybody else, of cousrse)
How can i create them? By pressing F8 ..or do i have to use the smart or anyother cd ?(which i can only download from the internet, because they have lost them). Will the 4 small logical 'set as' mirror 0+1 ? My controler is 641 (i thing i have mentioned that).Maybe this is childisly problems for you, but i am really stuck here.

another thing based in your expirience..i tried to mount the cdrom (on the same server just after the installation) and the system panics writing "Trap 0x0000000E' I am sure it is due to a bad installation.Except if i have to download another patch that fixes this problem.I hvme only download and install mp5, which i read is critical

Finally I have a question beacuse i want to be legal(first of all). They wanted to install a second cpu. They have an smp licence on their previus sco 5.05 and the new one is 5.0.7.I do know that sco let me use the old users licences but i am not sure if i can use and the smp.You could tell me ask SCO..but .. Anyway.. I tested it.The system accept the license, but i get another kerner panic error based on cpu2 and a cpu2"notice Srom spurius interrupt' Does this has to do because the smp is for 5.0.5 ? Of course if this not legal i will not use it, but i need to know if these errors have to do whith the software or the hardware

Thank you once more. This is my favourite forum and the only place i get really help. You have saved me and help me 'unstick' from other problems not only one time

Sorry for the large post..I really need some help here
Thank you

I think you would need to use the CDROM-based utility to divide that RAID set into 4 seperate filesystems. I just ran into that earlier this week. The BIOS version doesn't appear to give you the ability to make multiple partitions.
I don't know if your SMP license from 5.0.5 is "legal" for 5.0.7, but I doubt that it would cause the PANIC. I haven't done SMP since the old Pentium-60 days, sorry. It often seemed to be picky and didn't improve performance enough to tolerate the issues.
I believe your PANIC errors are hardware-related. I don't know if it's bad hardware, or just something which could be configured differently. You said you got a PANIC while mounting the CDROM, and another which references "Srom". "Srom" is the kernel driver for the CDROM device.
The CDROM is controlled by the motherboad. Is it the only device on that IDE controller?
I think you'll have to start over again if you wish to get the disk partitions you want. You will likely need to download a copy of the CD-based utility to configure the disks (set up 4 logical drives). Do your installation. Leave the SMP alone until you are sure the system is stable.

Best of luck!

I am curious about the need for the 4 filesystems. In those cases where my customers need separation I assign the first into root. Granted that there is overhead in there but all the user stuff can go into a separate directory.
Or in some cases I will keep them all in root but in different directories.
So far as the directory stucture is concerned, they all look like they are on one disk anyway.
Or am I overlooking something?

Thank you motoslide .. I am trying to download the Firmware Maintenance CD for the controler (i think thats the one that has the utility..or maybe the smart cd of the server), because they have lost everything. If i am wrong and i need to download something else, could you please tell me..?
As about rhe Kernel panic.. I had attached the cdrom to the controler of the m/b, and i did not attach anything else.
I used the drivers that i had download from the hp and i installed the mp5..So i dont think i did someting wrong with the installation. Moreover almost everytime that i got a panic msg ,i also got a msg about my second cpu

As about the division of my logical drive..If i am not wrong i have to do it offline , install sco and then use mkdev cpqciss to create and mount my filesystems..
And ofcourse my root disk will "work" as a mirror (pure english..sorry)
One think is for sure, that i will leave smp alone :)

thank you again..you are helping me a lot

edfair ,i am also curious, too..On their last server they need 6 !! of them .They had 2 disks and i did not face this problem.Forgive me if i am wrong, but you mean to create a directory (let as say user1), give the right permissions and then restrore their data there.
The director of the computerization for one reason, wants me to creat in the system 4 filesystems and none of them has to do with te root.I have asked him, but i did not get any answer about it..So i am stuck in this situation. It is not my option to do this..I just follow "orders"
Thank you, too, for your concern

The man who pays the bill is always right, even when he is wrong. but that is another story.
You're correct in what I was proposing. But there are some valid reasons for doing it the way the boss wants it done, primarily with filesystem integrity.
I separate filesystems on my major customer, across 3 disks and 2 controllers for the same reasons.

me again.. :-S
So, i tried to follow motoslide instructions..(thanks again man) I did create from the beginning 5 locical drives(one for root, four for my filesytems, but as soon as i try to partition the root disk i just saw only 2 logical drives of them and another one just as whole disk.. I started from the beginning and this time i created 3..One from my root disk and two for my filesyatems. This time i could see them as i was expected to be
I costumized them from the beginning, and divided the 2 other logical drives into 4 filesystems. It seemed to work ok and sco did the filesystems during the installation..
I dont have to use cpqciss, do i? and another thing.. the secondary logical drives differ by the id and not by LUN..ecxept if i did something wrong ..
Moreover at the end of the instalation, just after i install the network (the bcem driver, disabling asf) i noticed that all my licenses were expired. Anyway, the sco clock is set as 2 days after today, and i am sure(as sure i can be) that it was set ok during the installation..
If i set the date to 28 MAR all the license will not expire, but if i set the date as 26 MAR all the licenses will expire.. So is there someting i can do for it ? From Knowlege center i did not get any help..
I will wait ,if i cant do anything else, for 2 more days, because the dead time for the server will be next week..Just asking...
Thank all of you, ..you help me a lot

Demetrio,
Please look at following TA# on sco knowledge base
website. It gives info about latest HP EFS and additional
TA# references at the bottom for installing SCO on HP/Compaq hardware. You may want to contact SCO office in
your country about additional help with SMP license issue.
You may have to buy an upgrade license for 5.07 from 5.05
I hope this will help.
Sincerely
