OK, this may be long. In the past I have tried, to no avail, to acces an ACS remotely(and locally) I tried setting my modem to every speed setting. I tried all operating systems, home pc, laptop EVERYTHING. I could hear the 2 modems talking, but would get error message that said that my pc hear no far end tones. OR, the tones would just talk forever and everything would time out.

THEN, i downloaded rel6 that was posted here. For the heck of it, I tried and it worked. BUT, when I tried to read system data, the data wasnt correct it didnt read all of the correct extensions.
NOW, I cant connect to the same ACS(r4) Same thing. I went to the site today, and tried locally....I connected after 6 tries, but it would never complete reading data. I tried to reconnect and couldnt get back in.

HELP..

Hi Mongo5150,
I normally do not have problems... except on one system. It's an R6 but the fault existed on the previous Partner + processor (noise on all stations). I found out that there is BIG TIME electrical noise in the area where the system is installed. I am making a metal sheild to mount behind the system an the backboard. This will be grounded, and the system grounded to that point as well. I'll let you know how it works out. If I move the system out of that room, I can connect , no sweat. I found out later that the computer guys are having trouble with their gear as well. Neat huh?

I have tried at least 3 or 4 ACS's and can not connect to any. I can connect to a magix remotely, so I know my modem works... Weird huh..

ITP, please let me know how that works out

Hi Mongo,
On site, I will plug into the aux jack on a Partner phone. The number I dial is 76 (Direct dial). Push an intercom button on the phone just before the program dials and hang up the phone when you hear the modem dialing. Is that what you are doing?
-Chris

On sit, yes. I tried doing it that way, and doing the direct dial way. (Icm 76) Could not connect either way.

Hi Mongo5150,
Weird. I'll let you know how the shielding goes. Your on site connection is a mystery. Try to connect to a new processor just sitting by the desk. Possibly the OS is causing your grief? Try a computer with Win98.

try different modems....I had the same problem HSP mdms. I
went to a lucent modem and now works like a charm...with
the Partner & Legend software with Win 98 SE & XP home.

I installed an R6 tonight. I was able to dial in locally, but now that brings new issues.

I had everything programmed, but some of the programs were not read by the "get system information". Auto ext privacy and Autovms cover to be exact. It read the button programming, but not those.

Is this a problem with my software? Avaya software? Processor?

Hi Mongo5150,
I can normally read everything correctly. Did you try to reconnect and re-read the system? Those two items have needed changes in the past and I was able to do this remotely. I find I am calling into systems remotely more & more as time goes on. Beats driving in the big city (Toronto). At least you are getting closer to the ideal.

Hi Mongo5150,
Well, solved my problem. The backboard shield and grounding did not change a thing. After trying a UPS, then actually thinking about the problem, I tried removing the voicemail unit. Believe it or not, the vm was causing all the problems. The customer then reported all kinds of other funny problems with the vm.
The faulty unit is a Parnter Mail R3.0. It put a "clicking" noise on all lines and the intercom. It was also causing the new ACS R6 to reset from time to time. By removing the unit I could access the R6 with Remote Admin no problem. Lucky for me the "clicking" went away & I was able to prove this to the customer. Sold the last R1 4 port in stock as a result. I hope you luck out like I did.
