Uh, weren't Agnew and Nixon on Santa's list of Reindeer?

You know, "Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixon, Comet, Quipid, Agnew and Nixon"?

Best Regards,
Scott

One of my children (many years ago) thought there were seven tiny reindeer and sang it as:
Mufasa's Kid said:
Dasher [reindeer2], Dancer [reindeer2], Prancer [reindeer2], Vixen [reindeer2], Commies in Cuba [reindeer2], Donner [reindeer2], and Blitzen [reindeer2].

Interesting article about the original versions of the names - paraphrasing and translating the names, "On Comet, Thunder, and Lightning!" And to think our favorite reindeer now isn't any of those magestic three, it's the sissy with the glowing nose that always is whining about something. When you are carried on a sleigh behind Comet, Thunder, and Lightning, good thing you have a kid with a lightbulb on his nose to help out, since the other eight must be helpless or something...

Found this online too:

According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, while both male and female reindeer grow antlers in the summer each year (the only members of the deer family, Cervidae, to have females do so), male reindeer drop their antlers at the beginning of winter, usually late November to mid December. Female reindeer retain their antlers till after they give birth in the spring.
Therefore, according to every historical rendition depicting Santa's reindeer, every single one of them, from Rudolf to Blitzen ... had to be a female.
We should've known this when they were able to find their way.

Which brings up another point. "Santa" is the feminine form of "saint," "sacred," or "Holy," as opposed to the masculine "Santo." So it appears that Ms. Claus is out delivering presents, which leaves Mr. Claus at home taking his long winter's nap.

Sissy with the glowing nose? I'd like to see you tell that to uncle Alfie after he's had a few :)

[small]Sometimes you gotta leave your zone of safety. You have to manufacture Inspirado. You gotta get out of the apartment. You've got to run with the wolves. You've got to dive into the ocean and fight with the sharks. Or just treat yourself to a delicious hot fudge sundae........ with nuts. - Jack Black[/small]

These are magic reindeer who know how to fly. Seeing as the Alaska Department of Fish and Game would state that all male reindeer cannot fly, we have to assume that there is no reason that antlered, flying reindeer in late December can't be male.

If they have the magic to fly, it's no stretch to think that they have the tiny bit of extra magic needed to keep their antlers on!

I'd agree that the ability to know the way (and to be happy to ask if you were lost) may in general be a more feminine trait.

Male reindeer may not be able to fly, but they certainly know how to swim. This one, with a 14-point antler rack, was testing his water wings recently at Flaming Gorge Reservoir here in northeastern Utah:

Amusing - but Santa Claus is derived from the Dutch Sinterklaas, and isn't anything to do with Spanish

No one teases SantaMufasa about being female... why should we start with Santa Claus?

(I don't want to tease Santa - or else who will help me when I'm stuck?)

I was at the North Pole, of course! (Santa sees all, knows all...and if you believe that, I also have some property in Central Nevada that I would like to show you. <grin>)

Santa,

I've been ever so well behaved this year. Honestly! [wink].

So, how about a new shiny bicycle? And a pony.

You might like a book called The Real Rudolph, the biology of actual reindeer. Includes reindeer riders.
