I've setup a VPN tunnel between my home and office. The tunnel is working (according to the logs) and renegotiating keys every 3600 seconds. I think I have a network problem and I'm stumped. Warning, I'm not an expert at this stuff, but have done a fair amount of network setups. Please be patient if I ask dumb questions.

The setup:
Work side, Cable access, BEFVP41, static WAN ip. I have 10 or so computers. 8 are using the router's DHCP function. I have one pc, advanced 2k server with a static ip of 192.168.1.30. I have a printer with a static ip of 192.168.1.25. All of the dynamic ips are in the 192.168.1.xx (2-20) range.

Home side, cable access, BEFVP41, dynamic WAN ip. All pcs are using the routers DHCP function with ips of 192.168.2.x.

The VPN tunnel is connected and seems reliable. One home PC is a win2k pro seat and I want to be able to log into my work domain. I physically took the home PC to work and got it setup and functioning on the network, just to make sure it was working.

Now it's weird. I've taken the home pc with 2k pro back home, and I can't log in through the VPN tunnel. From the home PC, I can ping all of the dynamic ips at work (192.168.1.x) including the router on that side (192.168.1.1), but I can't ping the server (192.168.1.30, or the printer x.x.x.25). All of the work pcs can ping all of my home pcs and the home router. The server will not ping anything in the home subnet 192.168.2.x.

Weird, even though the server wont ping any of my home pcs, my home pc running win 2k does show up in the network neighborhood on the server. I cant browse it though. Checking the servers event log, I get a warning about a master browser conflict with my home pc (cant' remember the exact error). From my home pc, nothing shows up in the network neighbor hood, but if do a search for any of the work pcs they will show up (except the server). I cant' browse them though (double clicking on them).

I called Linksys tech support, and they suggested installing netbeui on the server and my home pc, but this didnt help. They also suggested checking the logs for ports to forward. The only activity between the two router is on port 500. I didn't really understand this.

I know this is long, but please help!!!

Oh by the way, I know this might be time consuming for someone to help, so if someone can offer me the support to get this working I would be will to pay a few bucks. Thanks!

I did some more playing around with this today, adding netbios over tcp/ip support to my home pc and work server, and adding a WINS server at work with a static route to the static IP address of the server. I not real sure of where I'm heading with that. It still doesnt work of course. When I try to ping my home network from the server, I get the message "destination host unreachable". What does this indicate? I have a feeling it may be the root of the entire problem. Like I said earlier, I can ping my home network from any of the other pc's at my work location.

Hi,

The gateway in your server should point to local Linky
