I have a problem with file permissions.
I have an imap mail directory that i need nagios to read so it can tell me how many mails are in the new folder, but nagios does not have permission to read the mail/new directory

the permissions on the directory are ?---------

do any of you guy's know how i can get around this problem ?

Many Thanx in anticipation

I do not use Nagios but any of this tools usually needs a user/group to be created.

Does your system have a Nagios user?
If so, you may set the permissions the same way you do for all other users/groups.

Please post the result of

ls -l mail/new

Life is what happens when you are making other plans.

As root there is nothing in the directory, but if I su nagios I get permission denied.
here is the output from the id command
uid=107(nagios) gid=107(nagios) groups=107(nagios),506(mothercare) context=user_u:system_r:unconfined_t

ls -l : drwxrw-rw- 3 clientname clientname 4096 Jun 16 13:15 clientname

so nagios just needs permission to read the directory and count the number of files within it ??

it's a bit strange to me .

Nagios needs 'x' or execute access to be able to 'cd' into that directory.
