Trying to backup an Exchange 2000 sp2 server running on Windows 2000 Advanced Server sp2 using ArcServe 2000 Advanced Ed. Build 1086. All seems to be good (since disabling eTrust Antivirus) except for the Brick Level mailbox backup. We have approximately 300 mailboxes and about a third of the way through I receive:
"E8602 Failed to read from database. (DBNAME=Individual Mailboxes\User_Name\Calendar, EC=Backup Agent Error - (69) "Read\Write error in named pipes"."

I have been on the phone with CA's so-called technical support off and on with this issue for about 3 weeks now, and here is where we are at this point:
- SP3 and the Bricks patch (QO06202) has been applied
- Antivirus API has been disabled
- Background Scanning registry entry changed to value of 1

Any clues as to what to do next? CA seems lost on this one...

Network connectivity is a usual cointributor to named pipes errors with the backup agent. Check your connectivity by pinging your exchange server with a steady stream of chunky packets and start observing if there are any time outs in your pinging. Also, it may be your filesystem scanning causing the problem. Try disabling all virus scanners (including shut down of the scanners services) and then try bouncing the backup agent RPC service, then run another mailbox backup.

Let us know on any progress, good luck.
