Hi,

For anyone with 4.0 to 450r5/450r6 upgrades, I recommend you review the following.

I've experienced problems two fold with DMM (Data Migration Manager), namely:

1) IP sets did not port over correctly. This snow balled into lots of telephony configuration getting fouled up, and lots of manual reconfiguration. DMM 1.1.1 was released to resolve this, and is required on both 4.0 & 450. If you have IP sets, I recommend you don't attempt an upgrade on any version prior to this (and do upgrade a spare BCM chassis, so you can always refer to the config on the original 4.0 customer BCM: in the very least save all programming data and callpilot reports on the customer 4.0).

2) No voicemail messages ported over. Plus I had no last name for one mailbox which was not ported over (not sure how this occured on a 4.0, as lastname is mandatory). Designers are developing fixes, here are extracts of the fixes from the designers:

a. "Can not find the DATA " error which is seen in customer logs.
I couldn't reproduce this error. However DMM SMTP client code dataoutputstream to the SMTP socket flush code is missing. I will include the flush code in DMM.

b. "Can not find the 220-ESMTP Service ready" issue
Fixed

c. Last Name issue.
Fixed by adding "Empty" string in last name if last name doesn't exist.

Code changes very kindly submitted today by designers, however probably won't be available for several weeks, due to testing and release processes. In the mean time, if you have a 4.0 to 450 upgrade, I recommend you check all mailboxes include a last name and warn customers that mailbox messages may fail to port over (the mailboxes and their greetings will port over okay). This way they have a chance to note any important messages down for example.

Hope this helps.

regards
paul

PS I'm not sure when I will next have a 4.0 to 450 upgrade, so I'm not sure when I will be able to beta test a new build of DMM. If anyone does have an upgrade, please post to this forum entry, and I'll see if design would make it available to you for beta testing, once it has been released.

Thanks for sharing the info.So you still have your contacts at Nortel..!

Not so much that, I logged a ticket, as a result of two upgrades with problems.

Thanks Paul for the heads up on your recent "upgrade" problems.
It's a shame that Avaya didn't continue with the development for the BCM 400 systems.

All the best

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

I think the same here,Bcm all in the box was really liked by my customers,so far 2-3 IPO installed and each had weird problems(loose all config, loose all licenses, random reboot) something i have never seen on a Bcm.I just hope they don't loose the NA market that they had with the norstar and Bcm's, let's see IPO 7.0 now.
