Hi,

Has anyone heard of mono - a .net implementation for UNIX/Linux platform?

Has anyone attempted to install this onto SUN Solaris? or any other Unix/Linux OS?

Mono has been around for a while now. Novell recently bought Ximian, so now it has the legitimacy of a major company behind it. Read more at:

I don't see any binary releases for Solaris, but there are binaries available for Fedora, Slackware, Suse (another Novell company, so of course it's supported), and MacOS X.

You can always download the source and do your own port to Solaris.

I used it in a school project under Suse 9.1, it worked just fine. (Also played with the Windows release of it).

Ok - so some people have used it, but what is involved with getting the thing up and running?

I have downloaded the sources, and there are various makefiles - I have not made a package of this complexity before without it already being 'packaged' for me.

Any hints or suggestions?
