How can I use HTTP::Request to determine if a web page is available and has NOT been redirected?

I'd be tempted to use Net::Telnet rather than HTTP::Request. All you really want to do is write "GET $url HTTP/1.0\r\n\r\n\" to port 80 on the required server and then analyse the first few lines of the response (if any). Net::Telnet's timeout will let you spot dead sites.

Hope this helps...
