If you just want to monitor their reachability you could us WhatsUP. It just sends a ping and then notifies you if the ping is not returned. If you need to monitor bandwidth, CPU Util, temperature, etc, then you will need a SNMP software program like HP OpenView or CiscoWorks 2000.

WhatsUp Gold is bad. The Solarwinds Network Monitor program is soo much better. If up/down is all you want use ws_watch (eventually evolved into WhatsUp)
