I've been asked to find out about monitoring SNMP from within a VFP9 app. It says it's "Simple Network Management Protocol", but I don't get the "simple" bit!

Does anyone have any experience of this and, if so,could you point me in the right direction to start please. I've googled it and read up on some of the data there, but I'm trying to see how this could be tied into a vfp application. So, if any of you good people have any experience of this already I'd be grateful for the advice. Many Thanks.

I only recently go this so bare with me.

Various pieces of hardware are connected to a LAN or WAN. If one of these pieces of kit has a problem then, as far as I understand it right now, it can trigger a message to be sent out using SNMP. I need to be able to capture that message and then generate a warning to the appropriate person on a monitoring PC. The warning message could be printed, popped onto a screen or emailed out.

Thanks for your help.

Hmmm. I think I would rather be in your shoes, Mike. We've been having overnight LOWS of around 85F degrees. You can only imagine what it gets up to during the day.

Anyway, to help with the dilemma, give sourceforge.net a try. Do a search on SNMP and you'll get a few options. Some that very well could be integrated with VFP.
