monitoring a remote LAN

I need to monitor a remote LAN from my computer. How can I do this?

You do not give to many details as to what the problem is, but I assume you will have to monitor through a firewall. If so the admin for the firewall will have to open up TCP ports 161 and 162 (SNMP Ports) for outgoing and incomming packets. You can restrict the allowed hosts to just your openview server. The same thing will have to be done on the remote end as well. In additon, openview will need to be able to send and receive ICMP echos to the monitored systems. Also you should make sure you can do an nslookup on the remote systems or you will only see ip addresses on your map. You can get a white paper on NNM and Firewalls at
