I just purchased a new PC..its an AMD 120 GB harddrive and has a 19 inch view sonic monitor.
When I turn on the harddrive and the monitor at the same time the monitor stays black..I have to turn the monitor on and off and then the desktop shows. Or I have to wait about a minute from the time I turn on the harddrive to the time I turn on my monitor so the desktop loads...
Any ideas?

Your monitor should be able to be left switched on all the time as the computer will switch it off/to standby everytime you shutdown the PC and turn it back on when you re-boot the machine.

I assume that by 'harddrive' you mean the base unit that holds all of the components including the hard drive but also contains your motherboard (the bit everything is plugged into) the processor (AMD in your case) hard-drive/s (120gb for you)

You may want to check out some websites about basic computer components so thast if you need to post here again you can describe your problem a little more accurately. :)

Unless of course this is a troll.......

prob related to power draw from ac source. suggest leaving monitor on, as suggested by norty303, or, if need to shut both down, turn monitor on a few second before cpu. Advise against powering on in reverse order.
