When I search for a file in Windows Explorer, as I click on the file, the screen goes black for a second, then the desktop setting changes from 1024 X 768 to 800 X 600. I have to change it back manually. It seems to be mostly when the file is an mpeg or wmv, and opens Windows Media Player. I have a Chaintech Zenith 9CJS motherboard (Intel 975P with serial ATA and dual-channel memory),with a Pentium 4 2.6 GHz Canterwood 800 FSB, and 512MB of DDR400 RAM, running Windows XP Home with Media Player 10, and Norton Systemworks 2005. The graphics card is a Gainward 7800 with Nvidia 5600 Ultra 256 MB. Any ideas?

That happens after the player tried to play in full screen I guess. Then it refuses to come back at the previous resolution. Lokks like a parameter that isn't passed between the applications. You did the usual stuff? the latest drivers for the graphics card the latest windows updates. Do you still have the previous Media Player 9? Did it do the same? It happens at every resolution?

Yes, I have the latest driver installed, and all Windows updates. It did it with Media Player 9 too. I think it started when I raised the resolution to 1280 X 1024 one day (I think that's the native resolution of my 17" Iiyama Prolite 431S-S monitor). Everything is very small on the screen at that res. It's been unstable since then. Maybe I should uninstall and re-install the driver?
