I am running a Gateway 2000 Essentials computer. 475 mghz Pentium III, 64mb, 10 gig drive, and it is on cable modem. Yesterday (2/01/01) I installed a cable modem onto my computer, the tech guys said that I would need to re-install Windows for it to work right. I re-installed windows and everything is coming up fine, everything that is except my Monitor. It's a EV910 Gateway 19". When I go to the Start---->Settings---->Control Panel------>Display---->Settings Tab---->Advanced button at bottom---->Monitor Tab---->Change button,

it goes to the wizard wich gives me some options, it gives me the option of installing the "Super VGA 800X600@75mhz" monitor (wich is already installed along with a "Super VGA" adapter) wich would be fine but it does'nt work. I try to click on the Display, settings tab and adjust the color and the size of the desktop and it prompts me to shut down..fine I do but then it when it boots up again, it displays this message

"There is a problem with your display settings, please click "OK" and select the correct drivers and monitor"

Ok, now I go back into the same "advanced" screen where it I try to select the Gateway tab, where it gives me the selections of the EV 900, EV 500, and EV 700 monitors, and host of other monitors but not the EV 910 in wich I need.

The screen is really grainy and it does'nt display pictures right, I have been through this for the past 38 hours, so I thoroughly fustrated right now..this is my last ditch effort to get help so HELP ME!!!

Thanks in advance

the problem is, it has - by default - installed a default driver for the video... you need to go to and download the correct drivers for that model gateway...

also... next time the guys from your cable service tell you to do something, post here first... they were WRONG to advise you to reinstall windows...

I second jackrabit, COMPLAIN: the cable (RR?) is suppose to perform some install tied to the ethenet card that's it

I want to thank you for responding to my questions, and I eventually got my monitor back to working, I went to the Gateway.com site and logged into the gateway technical chat site, wich I will reccomend to anyone having problems with their gateway computer.

I signed a waiver form releasing them under any resposibility to fix my computer if something should go wrong, this should have raised some red flags, but I wanted cable modem so bad I did'nt even consider the ramifications...luckily I got this problem fixed, but the next person might not be so lucky.

thanks again for responding,

Spike
