hi all,
i can be working on my machine when the monitor will just power off on its own, a reboot normally sorts the issue, i had to reset the bios last time to get it to turn back on though, can anyone help??
Does just the monitor turn off, or does the entire system shut down?
If it's just the monitor, then make sure its cable connections are secure, reseat the video card, make sure the video card's fan is running, its heatsink is securely attached, and clean out any dust built up in its heatsink.
If no luck, then see if the same problem happens in Safe mode.
If not, then make sure that the video card's resolution setting and refresh rate do not exceed the monitor's specs.
If it's a relatively new monitor, then it should be able to run at 1024x768 @ 75 Hz refresh rate.
If it's an older unit, then try 800x600(or 640x480) @ 70 Hz.
If that does not help, then do a clean boot to troubleshoot it.
If the same thing happens in Safe mode, or if the entire system shuts down, then there's a serious hardware problem.
Hi,
thanks for the response, i have already reseated the card, checked all connections, etc. it doesnt happen often so is not immediately apparent when in safe mode, it might not happen at all so is hard to troubleshoot, the customer states that it started happening when they last moved the machine but all is seated and connected correctly, i may try and look for updated drivers on the net and see if it makes a difference, they may have damaged the agp slot when they moved the machine but cant see any physical damage to the board, refresh rate is not an issue nor the resolution as they have been using this for around 6 months with no issues, only since they moved the pc last week
I've not know a monitor that can be turned off by a computer - shut down to standby/sleep mode but not turned off. If you really mean turned off, then I'd suspect the monitor was damaged when they moved it.
the monitor doesnt turn off just states no input signal from input a, defo nothing wrong with connections and all is set correct, stumped but onna run some hardware diagnostic tools on it and see whats what!
