I recently upgraded my CPU chip from an old AMD to a Pentium 166. Now the power management setting which turns off my monitor after five minutes of inactivity does not work after starting the computer. If I bring up control panel, power management, and click OK, then the monitor power management works correctly until I start the computer again.

My BIOS is Award Modular BIOS Version 4.51PG. Its power management settings are Power Management...Disable, PM Control by APM...Yes, Video Off Method...V/H SYNC+Blank, and Video Off Option...Susp,Stby->Off.

How can I solve this problem? Thank you.

What OS are you using ?
What you describe is typical of the lack of stability that Windows 98se demonstrates in that area. I have never found a solution myself.
I have experienced much frustration with Windows and screen suspend in general. With XP, I must admit that the situation is getting better. XP seems to handle the actual suspend correctly, even though it does not seem quite able to always respect the stated delay. Both of my WinXP PCs is set to 15 minutes, one does it, one suspends after 5 minutes. The one that doesn't work correctly has an old motherboard - I wonder if that has an impact.
