Does anyone know how to make Gnome shut off the monitor after a specifed amount of idle time? The check box option found in the screen saver setting does not do anything. The screen saver just run forever!!

Thanks,
Karl

Actually, I've usually had the *opposite* problem. Systems
insisting on powering off a monitor, even when I wanna look at da
pwetty pictures.

try 'man xset'. something like 'xset s on' or 'xset s blank' or 'xset dpms' might work.
