I have an NEC XP-21 monitor. When it turns on (after turning off after being idle), it makes a noise for a second that sound similar to a cricket. Very occasionally it blacks out then comes back on after a moment as described in another post, but this cricket noise has happened several times in the last five days. Today it made the noise 3-4 times after turning back on. It doesn't happen once it is running.

Is this something to be concerned about and is it something that needs to be repaired immediately or risks further damage (and I know from the other post that there is high voltage inside). Hope someone has some insights that I don't.

Not actually familiar with that monitor model, if it is a new or expensive one I would have it looked at immediately by a professional as it could indeed do further damage. Do not attempt to open it yourself due to the high voltages you mention. Help us to help you, please post back and tell us if this helped.

All things are possible except skiing through a revolving door.
