Hey all,
I have no idea where my BG TTY PORT is (I think it was disconnected) but I was wondering if I can monitor the housekeeping code diplays using my admin terminal?
thanx in advance!

I think you need to change the TTY port, you are using to have USER = BGD?.

Here is an example below taken from an Option 11c system.

ADAN TTY 0
TTY_TYPE SDI
CAB 00
CARD 00
PORT 0
DES 08709_456789
FLOW NO
USER MTC SCH BUG BGD
CUST 00
TTYLOG 0
BANR NO

I think that the login will now show a "dot", but you can still login OK.

Firebird Scrambler is correct but if you want to receive the room status updates in real-time then you will also need to configure the background terminal port.
This command at the dot prompt will show the current port config:
.PR PO

To change port xx to display room status:
.SE OP PO xx DI ST

so I tried changing the port via LD 17:

ADAN chg tty 4
CTYP CPSI
PORT 0
DES CORETTY
DES

BITL
STOP

USER MTC TRF SCH BUG BGD

SCH5656

here is my cfg via ld 22.

OMG this would be so much easier if someone on this property before me took notes!

I am not sure what to do at this point?
Thanks again!

I don't think you can mix TRF and BGD together. Try removing TRF by doing XTRF first, then add BGD on TTY 4.

I removed TRF, then tried adding BGD, I get the same error:

SCH5656
Invalid user types for this device.

thanx

OK, The reason why you can't use TTY 4 and TTY 5 is because these TTY ports belong to your processors and are only meant for maint terminal use.

You need to use a different TTY port. This was why BGD was used on ones such as TTY 9 etc. I would go through all your RS232 connectors to check for any spare TTY ports as I think you will have some hidden around the switch or wiring frame etc.

is it the same protocol as the MTC terminal?
I think it may have been removed/disconnected from the backplane.
thanx again! will get back with results

I am at the point now where it looks like I need Hardware Knowledge. I need to cross reference physical serial ports with the logical ones assigned. Pretty daunting whyen there is no documentation!
