Hello everyone,

I have 2 computers connected to the same monitor using a Linksys kvm switch. Both computers can support 85hertz. Winxp computer has geforcefx 5200 graphics card, I have the frequency set to 85hertz... I have no problems with that computer. Other computer is win2k server with a geforce2 mx, when i set the frequency to 85 it's fine for awhile then at some point it reverts to 60hertz. I've been trying to find a solution for this since 60hertz kills my eyes. Resolution on win2k is 1280x960. Monitor is 19" Nec MultiSync FE991sb. Thanks in advance.

Oh yeah... I've installed latest drivers for both vidcard and monitor on both computers.

Hello,

If you set the resolution on the win2k server to 1024 x 768 can you set refresh to 85Hz and will it stay at 85Hz?

The max refresh rate your monitor will support at 1280x1024 is 89 Hz, so theoretically it should run at 85 Hz for that resolution.
However, being only 4 Hz below the max may be what's causing it to reduce to a 'safe' 60 Hz.
You may want to try a slightly lower RR, like 75 Hz, and see if it stabilizes. Personally, I run my monitor at that RR, and do not see any difference when compared to 85 Hz.

Does the same thing with 75Hertz

Check the specs on the GF 2 MX video card for the max RR that can support at 1280x960.
If it's less than or equal to 75 Hz, then reduce the resolution as suggested by sharper, and do not exceed the max specified RR for that resolution.

If it's more than 75 Hz, then the video card may be failing.
Try a different card.

As a test, lower the resolution (suggested by ski) and see if that sticks. It could be a combination of the card or monitor having problems at 1280x960. Lower it to something standard like 1024x768 and 75Hz should have no problem sticking.

You also mentioned that you upgraded the monitor driver. What name is the monitor listed as? Does it say "Plug & Play" or "Default"?

You could use "Refresh Force" (Comes with the nVidia Drivers). I use a GeForce2 MX too (400 Model), so it should work for you:

Go into Display Properties. Go to "Settings" and click "Advanced". Then go to the "GeForce 2 MX/MX400" Tab (or whatever yours says). A new part should appear to the left of the Display Properties Window - in here, go to the "Refresh Rate Overrides". Then scroll down to 1280x960, and tick all the boxes (256-Colour, 16-Bit and 32-Bit), then in the "Refresh Rate" coloumn, change the "Default" to "85Hz", by clicking on the "Default" text.

Voila.
