Every time I turn on my television the picture on my monitor shakes. This only happens when the television is first turned on. When my electric speakers were close to my monitor there was a wavy pattern but i fixed that by moving the speakers away. I know this is some kind of electrical interference. I've been paranoid and haven't turned on the television when I'm using the computer for fear of breaking it but can anyone tell me wether this can actually break my monitor?

It shouldn't hurt the monitor, just move the 2 further apart, or try putting a heavy cardboard 'wall' covered with metallic foil between them as a block. Both will generate electromagnetic interference with the other if too close together, just as having speakers or magnets too close to the screen will cause purple spots on it.

Don't worry about it. My TV and monitor are 8 inches apart and have been for a couple of years. I just wait 10 econds until the problem goes away!

This is because the degaus circuit on the tv is initiated at turn on,it is connected to a thermister,as it heats up it opens the circuit.
