Monitor driver/refresh setting problems 1

I need to setup an older monitor (Tystar TY-3448 monitor) on a w2k system. The problem is I don't have nor can I find a driver (searched the net and several driver forums...no luck).

I can get it to run but cannot get the refresh to change from 60hz...a little hard on the eyes! I know this was setup on another system and set to 72hz but that system is no longer around. I tried setting it up as a 1024 x 768 @ 75hz and as a generic monitor but the refresh will only show 60hz as the "refresh frequency"!

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated

Sorry I realize that this isn't the proper place to post...I clicked the wrong forum before I noticed my mistake. However, I did try to correct this (several times) but the post would not take. I guess they have a system in place to prevent multiple posting of the same topic. Therefore I was forced to just link the thread from the video issues forum to here!

I don't understand if you have 1024 x 768 @ 75hz what was that about 60hz? What I was asking is what video driver are you using (standard VGA, SVGA, or something else).

Standard - Super VGA 1024 x 768 @ 75Hz

Sorry I gave the short answer before! With this driver installed I'm still unable to adjust the refresh frequency. It only gives me the choice of 60 Hz.

Howdy:

Load the proper driver for the video card and operating system.

You are trying to use a Windows generic driver and it won't give you any options to change anything.

Do you mean you're using Standard - Super VGA 1024 x 768 @ 75Hz driver for the MONITOR and presumably the correct driver for the video/graphics card?

In display properties, settings tab, does the monitor tab have a check box 'Hide mode that this monitor cannot display' checked? Can you uncheck it, then see if more trefresh rates appeard when you 'list all modes'?

wolluf and SESaskDFC. I just installed a new video card with the appropriate drivers. The "default monitor" driver doesn't allow for frequency refreshing adjustments any better than the "Standard - Super VGA 1024 x 768 @ 75Hz" driver. I'm stuck at 60 Hz as my only option. The monitors' manufacturer "Tystar" is no longer around (at least can't find it on the net). I've looked for drivers but haven't been successful. I used this monitor, from another system that crapped out, and it was set on 72 Hz. Any ideas!?

The make of the monitor is not as important as the type of video card you are using to drive this monitor. The video card is what determines the max refreshrate you are able to output, however this is limited by the max refreshrate your monitor can support. Thus the question is, which drivers are you using for your video card?

The video card is an "Asus V9520 Magic-T GeForce FX 5200" I installed then downloaded the latest drivers for the card from Asus. Neither the original nor the updated drivers made any difference. This card is capable of much higher refresh rates.

I don't totally agree with you about monitor having nothing to do with the refresh. I've used monitor drivers to access refresh rates not listed (or incorrectly listed) until the appropriate driver (monitor) was installed.

bradds - do the drivers for video card install any 'monitor adjustment software' (eg, extra tabs in display properties, advanced) - like Matrox?

Or - could install a monitor driver for similar spec monitor and see if it changes available modes.

No I didn't:

as the box is greyed out!

Not sure about a different driver? The "default driver" and the "Super VGA 1024 x 768 @ 75 Hz driver" are similar drivers, or at least close. Not sure what other drivers may fit!?

And thanks for the link I'll give that a try...will let you know later if it works or not!

The link to Powerstrip 3.40 worked like a charm! I can now access all the frequency setting that weren't unavailable before.
