Monitor brightness and contrast resets to 100%

I have a GABA 1570 digital monitor and recently I noticed that the brightness and contrast settings are reset to 100% after every boot and change of resolution as well...
Also Win98 started crashing lately which wasn't the case before.
(I have an integrated AGP vga card and a PCI card as well and the problem happens with either one)
Can a monitor cause Windows to crash?
