monitor blanks out each time loading windows?!?

each time I try to load windows 98se I get past the "loading files" part, but right after that "BAM!" the monitor blanks out. Tried this over & over & over. checked hardware as many times. So I try loading XP. XP loads all files then right at restart, "BAM!" monitor blanks out (& no return till reboot. Took out all cards cept AGP. Tried loading again, then...you get the picture. Swapped hard drives. No avail. Right at this moment I am swapping video cards although I really doubt that this is the source. I will add to this thread in about 15 minutes to fill in the results on that. Until then, would any of you happen to know what is causing this all-of-a-sudden behavior? My system contains (cept now. only agp card):
-asus P4B266
-P4 2.0gb
-pc2100 512
-AGP=ATi A.I.W. 32mb
the rest is already off..

wow. swapped video cards. actually I swapped the card in the machine I was loading windows in with another machine that was working fine. right b4 windows actually started the (get this) "G.U.I." thats when it blanks! That is when it blanked when loading windows. runs dos fine, when more graphic comes to play...it don't want to. ANYBODY?

Hmmmmmmmmm!!
Just the obvious but is the monitor capable of displaying 16bit? just I know that XP defaults are rather high and if you have an old VGA monitor?? just a thought. Martin Vote if you found this post helpful please!!

yea, I have a brand new 19" view sonic a90f! i've already had xp running on it. this is also happening on 98se intall. go figure. anyways i just flashed on something. maybe i'll go to ATi's site...Duhh. if i find what it is i'll post it. cause this IS weird.
